The “Eco Asia” Environmental University was established in 2000 (Certificate number≠ 142/2000) as a non-profit, non-governmental organization to assist to decision makers and scientists at national and local level,  and public, private sector to carry out reform on environmental  policy,  capacity building and EIA studies, scientific researches and practical activities in the field of  environmental protection and management of natural resources through  information and knowledge dissemination to better understand the environment and natural resources and their sustainable use.

As higher educational organization, the Eco Asia University has been conducted trainings and implemented projects on environmental management in the country. University manages its function in close cooperation with scientific research institutes, centers and NGOs of Mongolia.

“Eco Asia” University employs in total of 24 academic staffs and lecturers, and 20 of them are professionalized researchers in the field of environmental management. The Lecturers of University are experienced researchers, being worked as project team members and consultants of international and national projects, undertaking various research and investigations.

SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES:

  • Policy development / Institutional strengthening

Including strategies on environment, biodiversity, sustainable development ,green development and biological resource conservation/restoration, legislation (review & drafting), environmental law in coordination to global environmental treaties, national or regional planning policy and management, institutional and organizational analysis including SWOT analysis for national and local authorities.

  • Environmental planning & management,

Community based biological resource management, “Conservation partnerships” between communities and government, conservation, management plans for ecosystems and species, water management, wetland conservation & management, environmental science and planning for ecologically degraded areas and water deficiency, ecosystem and biological rehabilitation, capacity building (public education/information dissemination), ecotourism (field study/ economic incentive analysis,  public consultation and participation, mitigation of ecological impacts.

  • Basic inventories, assessment & valuations

Environmental baseline assessment, environmental ethics, study on ecosystem, vegetation mapping, ecological economic and socio-economic surveys, evaluation and assessment in relation of  sustainable development, terrain analysis, geological mapping, surface/ ground water contaminants’ geochemistry, hydrogeology, study on statuses of rare, endangered, threatened, and key species and other species,  known ecologically and resource importance, problem focused on ecological  and biological research, environmental assessment, client need assessment, valuation/documentation through films & video, monitoring environmental and biodiversity trends. In addition to the above, includes capability in project management, geographical information systems (GIS), database development and their application in the field of environment.

  • Assisting nations and secretariats to implement global environmental conventions

The Eco Asia University can be assisted convention secretariats and nations through studies of ecological, socioeconomic and legal issues and problems concerining with the implementation of global environmental conventions/ protocols such as: Climate Change, Migratory animal species, Desertification, Phasing out Ozone Depleting Substances and other similar multilateral environmental agreements. Policy and management studies, inventories and evaluations may be undertaken, depending on expertise required.
